Course Introduction

Gender equality and social inclusion are central pillars of sustainable development, ensuring that policies and programs address the needs of all population groups fairly. GIS provides powerful tools to analyze spatial dimensions of gender disparities and inclusion gaps.

Traditional planning systems often overlook gender-disaggregated data and spatial inequalities, leading to uneven access to services, resources, and opportunities. GIS helps visualize these disparities and supports evidence-based inclusive planning and decision-making.

This course introduces participants to the use of GIS for gender analysis and inclusion planning. It focuses on how spatial data can be used to identify inequalities in access to education, healthcare, employment, infrastructure, and social services.

Participants will learn how to integrate demographic, socio-economic, and spatial datasets to analyze gender-based patterns across regions. The training emphasizes mapping vulnerable populations and assessing inclusion gaps in development planning processes.

The course also explores advanced spatial analysis techniques for intersectional analysis, combining gender with age, disability, poverty, and location-based vulnerabilities. These approaches support more targeted and equitable interventions.

By the end of the course, participants will be able to design GIS-based gender analysis frameworks, produce inclusion maps, and support policies that promote equitable and inclusive development outcomes.
