Course Introduction

This course provides a comprehensive and practical understanding of how Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and hydrological modeling techniques are used for flood modeling and risk mapping. It equips learners with advanced geospatial flood analysis and disaster risk assessment skills.

The training focuses on integrating rainfall data, river basin information, terrain models, and remote sensing data to simulate flood scenarios and assess flood hazards. Participants will learn how spatial modeling supports early warning systems and disaster preparedness.

A strong emphasis is placed on flood hazard mapping, watershed analysis, inundation modeling, and vulnerability assessment. Learners will gain hands-on experience in identifying flood-prone areas using GIS-based hydrological and spatial analysis tools.

The course also explores applications in urban flood management, river basin planning, climate change impact assessment, infrastructure protection, and emergency response planning. Participants will understand how GIS supports flood resilience and risk reduction strategies.

Emerging technologies such as AI-based flood prediction, real-time hydrological monitoring systems, cloud-based flood modeling platforms, drone-assisted flood mapping, and satellite rainfall estimation are integrated into the curriculum. These tools enhance accuracy and response efficiency.

Finally, the course prepares professionals to design and implement GIS-based flood modeling and risk mapping systems that support disaster preparedness, mitigation planning, and climate-resilient development.
