Course Introduction

GIS for Disaster Risk Management Training Course is designed to equip participants with advanced geospatial skills to assess, monitor, and manage disaster risks using Geographic Information Systems for effective preparedness, response, recovery, and mitigation planning.

In an era of increasing climate extremes and environmental hazards, GIS plays a critical role in identifying risk zones, modeling disaster scenarios, and supporting timely decision-making. This course provides structured training in spatial analysis techniques for disaster management applications.

Participants will gain hands-on experience in hazard mapping, vulnerability assessment, and risk analysis using GIS tools and spatial datasets. The training emphasizes real-world disaster scenarios including floods, droughts, earthquakes, and landslides.

The course also explores integration of GIS with remote sensing, early warning systems, and emergency response technologies. Participants will learn how to combine multiple geospatial datasets to improve disaster preparedness and response coordination.

Special attention is given to real-time mapping, crisis decision support systems, evacuation planning, and post-disaster damage assessment. Participants will develop the ability to use GIS for effective disaster risk reduction strategies.

Ultimately, this course empowers learners with essential GIS skills for disaster risk management, enabling them to support resilience building, emergency planning, and climate adaptation initiatives effectively.
