Course Introduction

Conservation agriculture is a sustainable farming approach that promotes minimum soil disturbance, permanent soil cover, and crop diversification to enhance productivity while preserving natural resources. It plays a critical role in addressing soil degradation and climate variability challenges.

GIS technology provides powerful tools for analyzing agricultural landscapes, monitoring land use practices, and supporting data-driven decision-making in conservation agriculture systems. It enables spatial understanding of soil health, crop performance, and environmental impacts.

This training course introduces participants to the application of GIS in conservation agriculture, focusing on how geospatial technologies can support sustainable farming, soil conservation, and resource-efficient agricultural planning.

Participants will learn how to integrate soil, climate, crop, and land use data into GIS platforms to analyze agricultural sustainability, identify degradation risks, and design conservation-based interventions.

The course also explores climate-smart agriculture concepts and demonstrates how spatial tools can support adaptation strategies, precision farming, and long-term agricultural resilience.

By the end of the training, learners will be able to develop GIS-based conservation agriculture solutions that improve productivity while maintaining ecosystem health and environmental sustainability.

Duration

5 days
