Course Introduction

Community development projects aim to improve living standards, strengthen local governance, and enhance access to essential services. Effective planning and implementation require accurate spatial information to ensure resources are distributed equitably and efficiently across communities.

GIS provides a powerful platform for analyzing community needs, mapping infrastructure gaps, and supporting participatory planning processes. It enables stakeholders to visualize development challenges and opportunities in a spatial context for better decision-making.

This training course introduces participants to the application of GIS in community development projects, focusing on how geospatial tools can support inclusive planning, monitoring, and evaluation of local development initiatives.

Participants will learn how to collect, analyze, and interpret spatial data related to housing, education, health, water access, and infrastructure to support community-driven development strategies.

The course also emphasizes participatory GIS approaches that involve community members in data collection and planning processes, ensuring that development interventions are inclusive and locally relevant.

By the end of the training, learners will be able to design and implement GIS-based community development solutions that promote equity, transparency, and sustainable local development outcomes.

Duration
