Course Introduction

This course provides a comprehensive and practical understanding of how Geographic Information Systems (GIS) are applied in coastal and marine resource management. It equips learners with advanced geospatial skills to monitor, analyze, and manage marine ecosystems and coastal environments effectively.

The training focuses on integrating GIS with oceanographic data, satellite imagery, and marine spatial datasets to support sustainable coastal planning and marine resource conservation. Participants will learn how spatial analysis supports fisheries management, coastal protection, and marine biodiversity monitoring.

A strong emphasis is placed on shoreline change analysis, marine habitat mapping, and oceanographic spatial modeling. Learners will gain hands-on experience in assessing coastal erosion, sea-level rise, and marine ecosystem dynamics using geospatial tools.

The course also explores applications in fisheries management, marine protected area planning, coastal zone development, and marine pollution monitoring. Participants will understand how GIS supports sustainable blue economy strategies and ocean governance.

Emerging technologies such as satellite oceanography, AI-based marine habitat classification, drone-based coastal mapping, real-time ocean monitoring systems, and cloud-based marine GIS platforms are integrated into the curriculum. These innovations improve accuracy and responsiveness in marine management systems.

Finally, the course prepares professionals to design and implement GIS-based coastal and marine management systems that support climate resilience, sustainable fisheries, and long-term ocean resource sustainability.
