Course Introduction

The GIS for Climate Risk Financing and Carbon Accounting Course provides a specialized and interdisciplinary exploration of how geospatial technologies support climate finance, carbon markets, and environmental risk assessment. It equips participants with spatial intelligence tools for linking climate data with financial decision-making systems.

The course introduces foundational concepts of climate risk modeling, carbon accounting frameworks, and geospatial data integration for environmental finance systems. Participants will learn how GIS supports emissions tracking, carbon stock assessment, and climate vulnerability mapping.

A strong emphasis is placed on quantifying climate risks using spatial analytics to support insurance, investment, and policy decisions. Participants will explore how geospatial intelligence enhances climate resilience planning and financial risk mitigation strategies.

The program further examines carbon credit systems, including land-use emissions tracking, deforestation monitoring, and nature-based solution assessment. Participants will understand how GIS enables transparent and verifiable carbon accounting processes for global markets.

Participants will also engage with advanced technologies such as satellite-based carbon monitoring, AI-driven climate risk forecasting, and cloud-based geospatial finance platforms. These tools enable real-time insights into climate exposure and carbon performance.

Ultimately, the course prepares professionals to design and implement GIS-driven climate finance systems that support sustainable investment, accurate carbon accounting, and resilient economic planning under climate uncertainty.
