Course Introduction

Climate finance has emerged as a critical mechanism for supporting global efforts to mitigate and adapt to climate change. Governments, development agencies, and private investors are increasingly relying on geospatial data to identify, design, and evaluate climate finance projects.

Geographic Information Systems (GIS) play a central role in mapping climate vulnerabilities, tracking environmental risks, and prioritizing investment areas. By integrating spatial analysis with financial planning, GIS enables more transparent, data-driven climate finance decisions.

This course provides participants with practical and conceptual knowledge on how GIS tools are applied in climate finance project development, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation across diverse environmental and socio-economic contexts.

Participants will learn how to identify climate risk zones, assess project impact areas, and align spatial data with climate finance frameworks such as green bonds, carbon markets, and adaptation funds.

The training also explores how geospatial technologies support reporting requirements for climate funds, improve accountability, and strengthen project validation processes using spatial evidence and analytics.

By the end of the course, learners will be able to integrate GIS into climate finance workflows, improving project targeting, risk assessment, and investment decision-making for sustainable climate action.

Duration
