Course Introduction

The rapid global transition to renewable energy has brought offshore wind and tidal energy to the forefront of sustainable power generation. These technologies offer significant potential in decarbonizing economies while supporting energy security and coastal development. However, effective site selection, monitoring, and management are critical to ensuring their success.

This course provides participants with specialized knowledge in applying GIS and remote sensing to offshore renewable energy projects. It emphasizes the geospatial analysis of marine environments, resource mapping, environmental monitoring, and infrastructure planning.

Learners will explore how Earth observation technologies can inform the entire project lifecycle from identifying suitable locations for turbines and tidal systems to monitoring environmental impacts, grid integration, and long-term maintenance.

Cutting-edge modules focus on satellite imagery, LiDAR, radar, oceanographic datasets, and machine learning applications in mapping ocean dynamics, seabed conditions, and energy potential.

Participants will also gain insights into policy, governance, and environmental impact assessment frameworks that shape the planning and deployment of offshore renewable energy infrastructure globally.

By the end of the training, learners will possess the technical, analytical, and decision-making skills to leverage geospatial technologies for advancing sustainable offshore energy transitions.
