Course Introduction

Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and remote sensing technologies have revolutionized how forests and land resources are monitored, analyzed, and managed. This course provides a comprehensive foundation in spatial data analysis and earth observation techniques for effective forest and land use planning in dynamic environments.

As pressures on land and forest resources increase due to urbanization, agriculture, and climate change, decision-makers require accurate, real-time data to guide sustainable planning. This training equips participants with practical skills to collect, process, and analyze geospatial data for evidence-based land use and forest management decisions.

The course integrates both theoretical concepts and hands-on applications, enabling participants to work with satellite imagery, spatial datasets, and mapping tools. Participants will learn how to interpret spatial patterns, monitor land use changes, and assess forest health using modern geospatial technologies.

Participants will also explore how GIS and remote sensing support biodiversity conservation, climate change mitigation, and natural resource management. The program emphasizes the integration of spatial data into policy formulation, planning frameworks, and environmental decision-making processes.

Emerging technologies such as drones, artificial intelligence, cloud-based GIS platforms, and big data analytics are incorporated into the curriculum. Participants will gain insights into how these innovations enhance the accuracy, efficiency, and scalability of geospatial analysis.

By the end of the course, participants will be equipped with the technical and analytical skills required to apply GIS and remote sensing in forest and land use planning. The program aims to strengthen capacity for sustainable resource management and informed decision-making.
