Course Introduction

GIS (Geographic Information Systems) and remote sensing are powerful tools in modern agronomy, enabling precise mapping, monitoring, and analysis of agricultural landscapes. This course provides participants with knowledge and practical skills to use these technologies for crop monitoring, soil analysis, and farm management.

Participants will learn how to collect, interpret, and visualize spatial and spectral data to inform agronomic decisions. The course emphasizes the role of GIS and remote sensing in optimizing crop production, improving resource use efficiency, and monitoring environmental conditions.

The training covers satellite imagery, aerial photography, drones, and sensor technologies, showing participants how to detect crop stress, nutrient deficiencies, and pest or disease outbreaks. Participants gain hands-on experience with data acquisition and interpretation.

Soil and water mapping using GIS and remote sensing is a central component. Learners will understand how to assess soil types, moisture levels, and fertility patterns to plan interventions and improve productivity sustainably.

Data integration, modeling, and decision-support tools are explored. Participants will learn to combine GIS layers with agronomic data to create actionable insights for farm management, yield prediction, and risk assessment.

By the end of the course, participants will be equipped to use GIS and remote sensing applications for precision agronomy, enhancing productivity, sustainability, and informed farm-level decision-making.
