Course Introduction

The Geospatial Technologies for Circular Economy Planning Course provides an advanced and applied exploration of how geospatial intelligence can enable resource-efficient, low-waste, and regenerative economic systems. It equips participants with the analytical and technical capabilities to integrate spatial technologies into circular economy planning frameworks.

The course introduces foundational principles of circular economy thinking combined with geospatial science, including spatial resource mapping, material flow analysis, and GIS-based sustainability assessment. Participants will learn how spatial data supports the design of closed-loop systems that minimize waste and maximize resource efficiency.

A strong emphasis is placed on mapping resource extraction, production systems, consumption patterns, and waste management infrastructures using GIS and remote sensing tools. Participants will explore how spatial intelligence identifies inefficiencies and opportunities for circular transformation across industries.

The program further examines how geospatial analytics supports urban metabolism studies, industrial symbiosis planning, and sustainable supply chain optimization. Participants will understand how spatial data enables decision-makers to redesign economic systems for regeneration and resilience.

Participants will also engage with emerging digital technologies such as AI-driven geospatial modeling, IoT-enabled resource tracking, and digital twins for circular systems. These technologies enhance real-time monitoring of material flows and environmental impacts.

Ultimately, the course prepares professionals to design and implement geospatially enabled circular economy strategies that reduce waste, improve resource efficiency, and support sustainable economic transformation at local, regional, and global scales.
