Course Introduction

The Geospatial Technologies for Blue Economy Development Course provides an advanced interdisciplinary exploration of how geospatial intelligence supports sustainable utilization, governance, and protection of ocean and coastal resources. It equips participants with technical and strategic competencies to drive data-driven blue economy development.

The course introduces foundational concepts of geospatial technologies in marine and coastal environments, including marine GIS, bathymetric mapping, and coastal spatial data systems. Participants will learn how spatial data supports ocean resource management, maritime planning, and ecosystem monitoring.

A strong emphasis is placed on remote sensing, satellite oceanography, and geospatial analytics for monitoring marine ecosystems, fisheries, and coastal dynamics. Participants will explore how these tools help track environmental changes and support sustainable marine resource exploitation.

The program further examines spatial planning approaches for coastal infrastructure, maritime transport systems, offshore energy development, and marine protected areas. Participants will understand how geospatial intelligence enables balanced economic growth and environmental conservation in ocean spaces.

Participants will also engage with real-time ocean monitoring systems, integrating IoT sensors, satellite data, and predictive spatial models. These technologies enable continuous tracking of ocean conditions, marine biodiversity, and climate-related impacts on coastal zones.

Ultimately, the course prepares professionals to design and implement geospatially enabled blue economy strategies that enhance sustainability, support maritime governance, and promote resilient coastal and ocean development systems.
