Course Introduction

Gender inequality continues to shape access to resources, opportunities, and decision-making, limiting the potential for inclusive development. While many programs address gender issues, few go beyond surface-level interventions to transform the social norms and structures that perpetuate inequality. This course bridges that gap by introducing participants to gender transformative approaches that promote equity, empowerment, and sustainable social change.

The Gender Transformative Approaches in Social Programs Course equips participants with practical tools to critically analyze gender dynamics and design programs that address both immediate needs and long-term structural change. It emphasizes shifting power relations, challenging discriminatory norms, and fostering inclusive environments for men, women, and marginalized groups.

Participants will engage with global frameworks, innovative methodologies, and participatory strategies for integrating gender transformation into diverse social programs, from health and education to livelihoods and governance. The course balances theory with real-world case studies to ensure actionable skills.

The program also explores intersectionality, highlighting how gender intersects with age, disability, class, ethnicity, and other factors to shape vulnerabilities and opportunities. Understanding these complexities helps in creating inclusive interventions that respond to the lived realities of diverse groups.

In addition, participants will learn how to measure and evaluate the impact of gender transformative approaches. This includes developing indicators that capture shifts in norms, attitudes, and power dynamics, alongside tangible program outcomes.

By the end of the course, learners will be equipped to design and implement programs that not only promote gender equality but also drive long-lasting social transformation in their communities and institutions.
