Introduction

Gender equality and social inclusion are essential to achieving equitable and sustainable development outcomes. Yet, many projects fail to fully integrate gender-responsive approaches in their planning, design, and implementation stages. The Gender-Responsive and Inclusive Project Planning Course equips professionals with the tools, frameworks, and analytical skills to design, implement, and evaluate projects that address the diverse needs and priorities of women, men, girls, boys, and marginalized groups.

This course provides an in-depth understanding of gender concepts, equality principles, and inclusion frameworks that shape global and national development agendas. Participants will explore how gender roles, norms, and power relations influence project outcomes and how to integrate gender perspectives across the entire project cycle from needs assessment and planning to monitoring, evaluation, and learning.

Through real-world case studies and participatory learning exercises, participants will gain practical experience in applying gender analysis tools, conducting inclusive stakeholder consultations, and developing gender-sensitive indicators and outcomes. The course also emphasizes strategies to strengthen institutional capacity and accountability for gender mainstreaming in project environments.

Participants will explore intersectionality and its impact on development understanding how factors such as age, disability, ethnicity, and socioeconomic status intersect with gender to shape opportunities and vulnerabilities. Special attention is given to integrating inclusive approaches that ensure no one is left behind.

The course further introduces global best practices and frameworks such as the UN’s Gender Equality Strategy, SDG 5, and CEDAW, while exploring how to align project planning processes with these standards. Emphasis is also placed on data-driven decision-making, using gender-disaggregated data and evidence to inform effective interventions.

By the end of the course, participants will be equipped to lead and support gender-responsive project planning processes that promote inclusivity, equity, and sustainability driving transformation across all levels of development work.
