Course Introduction
Gender equality and women’s economic empowerment in agriculture are central pillars of inclusive rural development and sustainable food systems. This course is designed to equip participants with practical tools, policy insights, and implementation strategies that promote equal participation of women and men across agricultural value chains and rural economies.
In many agricultural contexts, women play a dominant role in production, processing, and household food security, yet they often face unequal access to land, finance, technology, and decision-making platforms. This course addresses these systemic inequalities and provides pathways for transformative change.
Participants will explore the socio-economic, cultural, and institutional barriers that limit women’s productivity and leadership in agriculture. The training emphasizes evidence-based strategies for dismantling these barriers and creating enabling environments for women-led agricultural enterprises.
The course further examines the role of gender-responsive policies and institutions in driving inclusive agricultural growth. It highlights how governments, NGOs, and private sector actors can integrate gender equality into agricultural programming and investment frameworks.
Special attention is given to women’s economic empowerment through access to markets, financial services, agribusiness opportunities, and innovation systems. Participants will learn how to design interventions that enhance women’s income generation and resilience.
By the end of the course, learners will be equipped to design, implement, and evaluate gender-responsive agricultural programs that promote equality, economic empowerment, and sustainable rural transformation.
