Course Introduction
SEnvironmental sustainability and effective natural resource governance are fundamental to achieving inclusive economic growth, climate resilience, biodiversity conservation, and sustainable development. Women, men, youth, indigenous peoples, and marginalized communities interact with natural resources in different ways due to varying social, cultural, and economic roles. Integrating gender perspectives into environmental governance strengthens equitable access to natural resources, improves decision-making, enhances resource management, and supports resilient ecosystems. This comprehensive training course equips participants with practical knowledge and advanced skills to integrate gender-responsive approaches into environmental governance and natural resource management.
Gender-responsive environmental governance recognizes that sustainable management of forests, water resources, fisheries, wildlife, land, minerals, energy, and biodiversity depends on inclusive participation and equitable benefit sharing. Participants will gain practical competencies in conducting gender analyses, designing inclusive environmental policies, strengthening institutional governance systems, promoting community participation, and developing sustainable natural resource management programmes that address environmental challenges while advancing gender equality and social inclusion.
The course is aligned with international frameworks including the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), the Paris Agreement, the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD), the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW), the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction, and national environmental and gender policies. Participants will learn how these global commitments influence environmental governance, institutional accountability, conservation planning, and sustainable resource management.
Throughout the programme, participants will explore practical tools for integrating gender into environmental policy development, ecosystem management, climate adaptation, conservation planning, environmental impact assessment, governance reforms, monitoring and evaluation, and community-based resource management. Practical case studies, simulations, policy analysis exercises, and collaborative learning will enable participants to develop effective governance strategies that balance environmental sustainability with equitable development objectives.
The training also examines emerging issues influencing environmental governance, including climate change adaptation, nature-based solutions, green economy transitions, environmental justice, circular economy models, artificial intelligence, geographic information systems, remote sensing, biodiversity finance, carbon markets, renewable energy governance, indigenous knowledge systems, youth engagement, disability inclusion, and environmental, social and governance (ESG) reporting. Participants will gain practical insights into leveraging these innovations for improved governance and sustainable resource management.
By the end of this intensive 10-day programme, participants will possess advanced technical, analytical, and leadership competencies required to design, implement, manage, monitor, and evaluate gender-responsive environmental governance initiatives. They will be equipped to strengthen institutional capacity, influence environmental policy, improve natural resource governance systems, and promote sustainable development that delivers measurable environmental, economic, and social benefits for present and future generations.
