Course Introduction

Climate change is one of the most pressing global challenges, with disproportionate impacts on women, girls, and marginalized communities. This course explores the critical intersection between gender equality, climate resilience, and sustainable development, equipping participants with the knowledge to design inclusive and effective climate action strategies.

Women and vulnerable populations often bear the greatest burden of climate shocks due to existing inequalities in access to resources, decision-making power, and adaptive capacity. This course examines these structural inequalities and demonstrates how gender-responsive approaches can strengthen resilience at all levels.

Participants will gain a deep understanding of how gender roles influence vulnerability, adaptation, and mitigation strategies in climate-affected communities. The course emphasizes practical tools for integrating gender perspectives into climate policies, programs, and sustainable development planning processes.

The course also highlights the role of women as key agents of change in climate action, sustainable agriculture, renewable energy adoption, disaster risk reduction, and ecosystem management. It emphasizes empowering women as leaders in climate resilience and environmental governance systems.

Emerging global issues such as climate-induced migration, loss and damage frameworks, green economy transitions, and climate finance are critically analyzed through a gender lens. This ensures participants are equipped to respond to evolving climate governance challenges effectively.

By the end of the course, learners will be able to design and implement gender-responsive climate resilience strategies that promote sustainability, equity, and long-term environmental and socio-economic transformation.
