Introduction

Youth form the backbone of socioeconomic development, yet across many regions they continue to face structural inequalities, limited access to opportunities, and persistent gender disparities that hinder their full participation in national growth. This course begins by unpacking the intersection of gender and youth empowerment, showing how inclusive strategies can directly influence economic progress, social well-being, and national transformation.

As economies evolve, young women and men encounter different realities shaped by gender norms, cultural expectations, and unequal resource distribution. While youth unemployment and underemployment affect both genders, young women often experience additional barriers, including discrimination, limited mobility, and reduced access to productive assets. The course explores these disparities and highlights the potential of gender-responsive interventions in boosting youth-led innovation, entrepreneurship, and leadership.

Socioeconomic transformation depends on the meaningful participation of youth in governance, markets, and community development. Participants examine the policy frameworks, institutional mechanisms, and multisectoral partnerships needed to unlock youth potential. Through case studies and global best practices, the course shows how gender-inclusive strategies have transformed societies by expanding access to education, skills development, and sustainable livelihoods.

One of the critical areas explored is the role of innovation, digital transformation, and emerging industries in shaping new opportunities for young people. Young women, in particular, face systemic challenges in STEM, digital economies, and technology-based entrepreneurship. Participants learn practical strategies for bridging the digital gender divide and creating inclusive pathways for youth participation in future economies.

The course also emphasizes youth leadership in peacebuilding, governance, climate action, and social justice. By understanding the power of youth voices, participants gain insight into how gender-responsive leadership models strengthen civic participation and institutional accountability. They learn how to design programs and policies that elevate youth agency while promoting equality and social cohesion.

By the end of the program, participants acquire the tools, knowledge, and frameworks needed to champion gender and youth empowerment within their institutions. They leave fully equipped to influence policies, implement transformative programs, and support young people especially young women to become catalysts of economic growth, innovation, and sustainable development.
