Course Introduction
Gender is a critical determinant of health outcomes, influencing access to healthcare services, exposure to health risks, health-seeking behaviors, treatment outcomes, and overall well-being. Women, men, girls, boys, older persons, persons with disabilities, and marginalized populations experience different health challenges shaped by biological, social, cultural, and economic factors. This Gender and Public Health Programmes Training Course equips participants with practical knowledge, internationally recognized frameworks, and implementation strategies to integrate gender-responsive approaches into public health policies, programmes, and healthcare systems, ensuring equitable access to quality health services and improved population health outcomes.
Public health programmes that fail to consider gender differences often overlook critical barriers affecting healthcare access, disease prevention, health promotion, and service utilization. Gender inequalities contribute to disparities in maternal and child health, sexual and reproductive health, nutrition, infectious disease management, mental health, non-communicable diseases, and emergency response. This course enables participants to analyze gender-related health challenges, identify vulnerable populations, and develop evidence-based interventions that strengthen health equity, social inclusion, and community resilience while improving the effectiveness of health programmes.
The course combines internationally recognized public health and gender frameworks with practical learning through case studies, health systems analysis, gender assessments, programme planning exercises, epidemiological reviews, stakeholder engagement workshops, policy analysis, and implementation simulations. Participants will strengthen competencies in gender analysis, health programme design, health systems strengthening, monitoring and evaluation, health data analysis, community engagement, health promotion, policy development, and results-based management. Practical exercises ensure participants can confidently apply gender-responsive approaches across diverse public health settings.
Rapid advances in digital health technologies, artificial intelligence, telemedicine, climate change, emerging infectious diseases, pandemics, demographic transitions, antimicrobial resistance, precision medicine, and evolving healthcare delivery models continue to transform public health systems worldwide. This course explores emerging issues including digital health equity, AI-assisted diagnostics, gender-responsive pandemic preparedness, climate-related health risks, mental health, disability-inclusive healthcare, One Health approaches, health misinformation, and innovative technologies that strengthen health system resilience while promoting equitable and inclusive healthcare delivery.
Participants will strengthen their capacity to integrate gender equality into health policy development, disease prevention, health promotion, healthcare service delivery, emergency preparedness, nutrition programmes, reproductive health initiatives, monitoring systems, institutional governance, and community health interventions. The training emphasizes rights-based healthcare, stakeholder participation, evidence-based planning, safeguarding, accountability, ethical practice, and continuous organizational learning while equipping participants with practical tools that improve health programme quality, institutional performance, and sustainable health outcomes.
Upon successful completion of this course, participants will possess the technical expertise, analytical capabilities, and leadership competencies required to design, implement, monitor, and evaluate gender-responsive public health programmes. They will be equipped to strengthen health systems, improve healthcare accessibility, reduce gender-based health disparities, promote inclusive service delivery, enhance institutional accountability, and contribute to healthier, more resilient communities through equitable, evidence-driven public health interventions.
