Course Introduction

Gender and Inclusive Governance in Water and Sanitation Services Course is designed to strengthen the capacity of professionals, policymakers, and development practitioners to integrate gender equality, social inclusion, and participatory governance into water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) systems.

Access to safe water and adequate sanitation remains deeply unequal across gender, geography, and socioeconomic status. This course explores how governance systems can be restructured to ensure equitable access, accountability, and sustainability in water and sanitation service delivery.

Participants will examine how gender roles, social norms, and power dynamics influence water access, sanitation infrastructure, and decision-making processes, particularly in rural, informal, and marginalized communities.

The course emphasizes inclusive governance frameworks that promote community participation, transparency, and equitable resource allocation in WASH programs and public service institutions.

Special attention is given to policy integration, institutional strengthening, and stakeholder engagement approaches that ensure women, youth, and vulnerable groups are actively involved in water and sanitation governance.

Ultimately, the course equips participants with practical tools to design and implement inclusive, gender-responsive, and sustainable water and sanitation governance systems that improve public health and social equity.
