Introduction

Women’s active participation in governance and decision-making is essential for promoting inclusive, transparent, and accountable institutions. The Gender and Governance Training Course equips participants with skills, knowledge, and strategies to strengthen women’s roles in leadership and decision-making processes.

The course explores structural and socio-cultural barriers limiting women’s representation in political, organizational, and community governance. Participants will learn methods to address these challenges and foster equitable opportunities for women leaders.

Participants will gain practical skills in leadership, negotiation, advocacy, policy engagement, and institutional reform. Emphasis is placed on developing confidence, strategic thinking, and stakeholder engagement capabilities to enhance women’s influence in governance.

Emerging topics such as digital governance, gender-responsive budgeting, participatory decision-making, and inclusive policy frameworks are integrated. Participants will examine innovative approaches to increase women’s participation at local, national, and regional levels.

The course also covers legal and institutional frameworks, including national policies, electoral laws, African Union gender protocols, and international human rights conventions. Participants will understand how to align governance initiatives with global best practices for gender equity.
