Course Introduction
SFood security remains one of the world's most pressing development challenges, with climate change, economic instability, population growth, conflicts, and environmental degradation placing increasing pressure on food systems. Women play a central role in agricultural production, food processing, household nutrition, and community resilience, yet they often face unequal access to land, finance, technology, markets, education, and decision-making opportunities. This comprehensive training course equips participants with advanced knowledge and practical skills to design, manage, implement, monitor, and evaluate gender-responsive food security programmes that promote sustainable livelihoods, nutrition, and inclusive agricultural development.
Gender-responsive food security programme management recognizes that women and men have different roles, responsibilities, vulnerabilities, and opportunities within food systems. Effective programme management requires integrating gender analysis into agricultural planning, value chain development, nutrition interventions, resilience building, policy implementation, and institutional governance. Participants will gain practical expertise in programme planning, stakeholder coordination, resource mobilization, budgeting, monitoring, and adaptive management while ensuring equitable participation and improved food security outcomes for vulnerable populations.
The course is aligned with international frameworks including the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW), the Committee on World Food Security (CFS) Principles, the FAO Framework for Gender Equality, the Paris Agreement, the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction, and national agriculture, food security, and nutrition policies. Participants will examine how these frameworks guide programme design, governance, investment planning, and institutional accountability while advancing gender equality and sustainable food systems.
Participants will strengthen their competencies in food security assessments, gender-sensitive livelihood analysis, climate-smart agriculture, nutrition-sensitive programming, agricultural value chain development, financial management, donor compliance, monitoring and evaluation, and evidence-based decision-making. Through case studies, simulations, programme design exercises, and collaborative learning, participants will develop practical solutions for managing complex food security programmes in rural, urban, humanitarian, and development contexts.
The programme also addresses emerging issues influencing food security management, including digital agriculture, artificial intelligence, precision farming, climate-resilient agriculture, regenerative farming, agroecology, food systems transformation, sustainable supply chains, agricultural finance, carbon-smart farming, biodiversity conservation, youth agribusiness, disability inclusion, indigenous knowledge, social protection, and resilient local food systems. Participants will learn innovative approaches that strengthen programme effectiveness while responding to evolving agricultural and food security challenges.
By the conclusion of this intensive training, participants will possess advanced technical, managerial, and leadership competencies required to lead gender-responsive food security programmes that improve agricultural productivity, strengthen nutrition outcomes, increase household resilience, promote equitable resource access, and contribute to sustainable rural and urban development. They will be prepared to design and manage impactful programmes that generate measurable social, economic, and environmental benefits for communities and institutions.
