Course Introduction
SEconomic empowerment is a critical driver of gender equality, poverty reduction, inclusive growth, and sustainable development. Across governments, development organizations, financial institutions, and private sector enterprises, there is increasing recognition that empowering women and marginalized groups economically strengthens household resilience, enhances productivity, promotes innovation, and contributes to national economic transformation. This comprehensive training course equips participants with advanced knowledge and practical skills to design, implement, monitor, and evaluate gender-responsive economic empowerment programmes that create measurable and sustainable development outcomes.
Gender-responsive economic empowerment extends beyond income generation by addressing structural inequalities that limit access to education, employment, financial services, productive resources, technology, markets, leadership opportunities, and entrepreneurship. Participants will explore evidence-based approaches for designing programmes that remove gender barriers, strengthen livelihoods, promote financial inclusion, increase women's participation in value chains, and improve access to decent work while fostering inclusive economic growth across diverse sectors.
The programme is aligned with international frameworks including the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW), Beijing Platform for Action, International Labour Organization standards, African Union Agenda 2063, and national gender and economic development policies. Participants will examine how these frameworks guide programme planning, resource allocation, policy development, implementation, and institutional accountability in advancing gender-responsive economic development initiatives.
Participants will gain practical competencies in conducting gender-sensitive market assessments, livelihood analyses, value chain development, financial inclusion planning, entrepreneurship promotion, programme budgeting, stakeholder engagement, monitoring and evaluation, and impact measurement. Through practical case studies, simulations, field-based examples, and collaborative learning exercises, participants will develop programme designs that respond to local economic realities while supporting sustainable and inclusive development.
The course also addresses emerging issues shaping gender and economic empowerment, including digital entrepreneurship, financial technology, artificial intelligence, climate-smart livelihoods, green jobs, circular economy models, youth employment, disability inclusion, migration, social enterprises, impact investing, and resilient local economic development. Participants will learn innovative strategies for integrating these trends into programme design while ensuring equitable participation and long-term sustainability.
By the end of this intensive training programme, participants will possess advanced technical expertise to design, implement, manage, and evaluate gender-responsive economic empowerment programmes that strengthen livelihoods, promote entrepreneurship, improve financial inclusion, enhance institutional capacity, and contribute to inclusive economic transformation. They will be equipped to develop impactful interventions that empower women and vulnerable populations while delivering measurable social and economic results.
