Course Introduction
SClimate change affects women, men, girls, and boys differently due to existing social, economic, and environmental inequalities. As governments, development agencies, financial institutions, and the private sector increase investments in climate action, integrating gender equality into climate finance has become essential for ensuring equitable, effective, and sustainable outcomes. This comprehensive training course equips participants with advanced knowledge and practical skills to design, finance, implement, monitor, and evaluate gender-responsive climate programmes that align with international climate commitments and promote inclusive resilience.
Gender-responsive climate finance goes beyond allocating funding to climate initiatives. It requires understanding gender-differentiated climate vulnerabilities, promoting equitable access to financial resources, strengthening women's leadership in climate governance, and ensuring that climate investments contribute to social inclusion, economic empowerment, and environmental sustainability. Participants will gain practical expertise in integrating gender analysis into climate finance mechanisms, investment planning, budgeting, and programme implementation across multiple sectors.
The course is aligned with major international frameworks including the Paris Agreement, the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW), the Green Climate Fund Gender Policy, and national climate adaptation and mitigation strategies. Participants will explore how these frameworks guide climate finance programming, policy development, institutional accountability, and investment decision-making while advancing gender equality objectives.
Participants will develop competencies in climate finance architecture, project preparation, proposal development, gender-responsive budgeting, climate risk assessment, adaptation planning, mitigation financing, results-based management, monitoring and evaluation, and impact reporting. Practical case studies, simulations, funding proposal exercises, and real-world examples will provide participants with the tools necessary to mobilize resources and design high-impact climate investments that deliver measurable environmental and social benefits.
Special emphasis is placed on emerging issues including carbon markets, environmental, social and governance (ESG) financing, green bonds, blended finance, climate insurance, artificial intelligence for climate analytics, digital climate finance platforms, nature-based solutions, biodiversity conservation, climate justice, just transition, youth engagement, indigenous knowledge, disability inclusion, and resilient green economies. Participants will learn how these innovations can strengthen gender-responsive climate finance strategies and improve programme effectiveness.
By the end of this intensive training programme, participants will possess the strategic, financial, and technical expertise required to integrate gender considerations into climate finance policies, programmes, and investment portfolios. They will be equipped to mobilize climate resources, strengthen institutional capacity, influence climate policy, and design inclusive climate finance interventions that accelerate resilience, sustainable development, and gender equality at local, national, regional, and global levels.
