Course Introduction

Gender and climate change mainstreaming is a critical approach that ensures climate policies, programs, and interventions address the differentiated impacts of climate change on men, women, and vulnerable groups. This course provides a comprehensive understanding of integrating gender perspectives into climate action frameworks.

The program explores how climate change affects gender roles, livelihoods, and access to resources differently across communities. Participants will gain insight into vulnerability patterns and how gender inequalities shape climate resilience outcomes.

A key focus is placed on policy integration, ensuring that gender considerations are embedded in national climate strategies, adaptation plans, and mitigation programs. The course emphasizes practical tools for mainstreaming gender in climate governance systems.

Participants will also examine global frameworks such as the Paris Agreement, SDGs, and UNFCCC gender action plans, which promote gender-responsive climate policies. Case studies highlight successful integration practices across different regions.

The course further addresses barriers to gender mainstreaming, including cultural norms, institutional weaknesses, data gaps, and limited participation of women in decision-making processes. It also explores strategies for overcoming these challenges.

By the end of the course, learners will be able to design and implement gender-responsive climate policies and programs that enhance equity, resilience, and sustainable development outcomes.
