Course Introduction
Artificial Intelligence (AI) is rapidly transforming governments, businesses, financial institutions, healthcare systems, education, agriculture, justice systems, and public service delivery. While AI presents unprecedented opportunities for innovation, efficiency, and economic growth, it also introduces significant ethical, legal, and social challenges. Bias in AI algorithms, unequal access to AI technologies, discrimination in automated decision-making, privacy concerns, and limited participation of women and marginalized groups in AI development threaten inclusive and equitable digital transformation. This comprehensive training course equips participants with advanced knowledge and practical skills to integrate gender perspectives into AI governance, policy development, regulatory frameworks, and organizational decision-making.
Gender-responsive AI governance ensures that artificial intelligence systems are transparent, accountable, fair, inclusive, and aligned with human rights principles throughout their lifecycle. Participants will develop practical competencies in AI governance frameworks, ethical AI principles, gender impact assessments, algorithmic bias mitigation, responsible innovation, regulatory compliance, digital rights protection, stakeholder engagement, and institutional capacity development. The course emphasizes evidence-based approaches that enable organizations to harness AI responsibly while minimizing risks and promoting social inclusion, equity, and sustainable development.
The programme is aligned with internationally recognized frameworks including the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), the UNESCO Recommendation on the Ethics of Artificial Intelligence, the OECD AI Principles, the United Nations Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights, the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW), the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (UNCRPD), emerging AI regulatory frameworks, and Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) standards. Participants will explore how these frameworks guide responsible AI governance, digital inclusion, accountability, transparency, and equitable technological innovation.
Participants will strengthen their expertise in AI policy development, gender-responsive AI governance, ethical technology assessment, digital transformation strategies, AI risk management, regulatory compliance, stakeholder consultation, institutional reform, monitoring and evaluation, and organizational governance. Through practical case studies, AI governance simulations, policy design workshops, algorithm auditing exercises, scenario analysis, and collaborative learning, participants will develop actionable solutions for designing and governing AI systems that promote fairness, accountability, inclusion, and public trust.
The course also explores emerging issues shaping AI governance, including generative AI, explainable AI, algorithmic transparency, responsible machine learning, large language models, AI for climate action, digital identity systems, facial recognition technologies, AI-enabled public services, cybersecurity, data privacy, synthetic media, AI ethics boards, responsible innovation, AI auditing, digital sovereignty, and international AI governance cooperation. Participants will gain practical insights into managing these rapidly evolving technologies while ensuring equitable outcomes and protecting fundamental rights.
By the end of this intensive 10-day programme, participants will possess advanced leadership, governance, technical, and policy competencies to develop gender-responsive AI strategies, strengthen institutional governance, manage ethical AI risks, improve regulatory compliance, promote inclusive innovation, build organizational capacity, and lead responsible AI transformation initiatives that foster equitable economic growth, public trust, and sustainable digital development.
