Course Introduction
Agriculture remains one of the most important sectors for economic growth, food security, employment, and poverty reduction, particularly in developing countries. Women and men play different but complementary roles across agricultural value chains, yet unequal access to productive resources, finance, technology, land ownership, extension services, markets, and decision-making opportunities continues to limit agricultural productivity and inclusive development. This Gender and Agriculture Development Training Course equips participants with practical knowledge, internationally recognized frameworks, and implementation strategies to integrate gender equality into agricultural policies, programs, projects, and value chain development for sustainable and inclusive agricultural transformation.
Gender inequality in agriculture affects farm productivity, household nutrition, climate resilience, rural livelihoods, and economic empowerment. Women farmers often face barriers related to land tenure, agricultural inputs, mechanization, digital technologies, financial inclusion, leadership opportunities, and access to markets. Addressing these disparities requires gender-responsive planning, evidence-based policymaking, inclusive value chain development, and targeted interventions that strengthen the participation and economic empowerment of women, youth, and marginalized rural communities. This course provides participants with practical skills to identify gender gaps and develop effective agricultural development solutions.
The course combines internationally recognized agricultural development frameworks with practical learning through case studies, field-based exercises, gender analysis workshops, stakeholder mapping, agricultural value chain assessments, project planning sessions, and policy reviews. Participants will strengthen competencies in gender analysis, agricultural policy development, climate-smart agriculture, food systems, agribusiness management, rural finance, monitoring and evaluation, and inclusive agricultural project design. Practical exercises ensure participants can confidently integrate gender-responsive approaches into agricultural programs and institutional strategies.
Rapid technological innovation, climate change, digital agriculture, artificial intelligence, precision farming, sustainable food systems, environmental sustainability, youth employment, and evolving agricultural markets continue to reshape rural development. This course explores emerging issues including climate-resilient agriculture, digital extension services, AI-enabled farming, regenerative agriculture, carbon markets, women-led agribusinesses, agricultural entrepreneurship, digital financial inclusion, biodiversity conservation, and innovative technologies that strengthen agricultural productivity while promoting equity and resilience.
Participants will strengthen their capacity to integrate gender-responsive approaches into agricultural planning, extension services, food security initiatives, climate adaptation programs, agribusiness development, rural financing, monitoring systems, policy formulation, and institutional governance. The training emphasizes participatory development, inclusive leadership, evidence-based decision-making, stakeholder collaboration, sustainable resource management, and continuous organizational learning while providing practical tools that improve agricultural productivity, strengthen livelihoods, and promote equitable rural development.
Upon successful completion of this course, participants will possess the technical expertise, analytical capabilities, and leadership competencies required to design, implement, monitor, and evaluate gender-responsive agricultural development initiatives. They will be equipped to strengthen agricultural institutions, improve food security, enhance women's economic empowerment, increase climate resilience, support inclusive value chains, and contribute to sustainable agricultural systems that benefit rural communities and national economies.
