Course Introduction
Gavi-funded programmes and projects require disciplined management of financing, immunisation priorities, implementation arrangements, stakeholder relationships, procurement, monitoring, and accountability. This course provides a practical framework for professionals responsible for translating Gavi-supported investments into coordinated, measurable, and sustainable programme results.
The course examines the full programme and project management cycle, from investment planning and programme design through implementation, financial management, procurement, performance monitoring, risk management, reporting, and closure. Participants develop an integrated understanding of how planning and execution decisions influence programme effectiveness, resource utilisation, compliance, and health outcomes.
Particular attention is given to the roles and relationships among national authorities, immunisation programmes, implementing partners, development organisations, suppliers, communities, and other stakeholders. Participants learn how to establish effective governance structures, clarify responsibilities, coordinate implementation activities, manage dependencies, and resolve operational challenges that can affect programme performance.
Strong financial and operational management is central to successful Gavi-supported implementation. The course therefore addresses budgeting, expenditure planning, financial controls, procurement, supply chain coordination, asset management, documentation, risk mitigation, and accountability. Participants learn how to connect financial and operational information with programme priorities and management decisions.
The programme also explores results-based management, monitoring and evaluation, data quality, performance reporting, adaptive management, sustainability, and transition considerations. Emerging issues such as vaccine supply resilience, digital health systems, climate-related disruptions, localisation, equity, health-system strengthening, and evolving immunisation needs are incorporated into the learning framework.
By the end of the course, participants will be better equipped to manage Gavi-funded programmes and projects with greater structure, accountability, responsiveness, and results orientation. The practical approach enables participants to strengthen implementation systems, anticipate risks, improve coordination, and support sustainable immunisation programme performance.
