Course Introduction

Forest resource assessment and inventory management are fundamental to sustainable forest management, enabling evidence-based decision-making, planning, and conservation. This course provides a comprehensive understanding of modern techniques and methodologies used to assess forest resources, monitor changes, and ensure optimal utilization of forest ecosystems.

With increasing pressure on forest resources due to climate change, deforestation, and land-use changes, accurate and timely data has become essential. This training equips participants with practical skills to conduct forest inventories, analyze resource data, and support policy and management decisions aimed at sustainability and resilience.

The course explores both traditional and advanced approaches to forest inventory, including field-based sampling techniques and the use of geospatial technologies. Participants will gain hands-on experience in data collection, measurement, and analysis, ensuring reliability and accuracy in forest resource assessment.

Participants will also examine how forest inventory data supports biodiversity conservation, carbon accounting, and ecosystem services valuation. The program emphasizes the integration of forest assessment data into broader environmental and development planning processes.

Emerging issues such as the use of remote sensing, drones, artificial intelligence, and big data analytics in forest monitoring are incorporated into the course. Participants will learn how to leverage these technologies to enhance efficiency, accuracy, and scalability in forest inventory management.

By the end of the training, participants will be equipped with the knowledge and tools to design, implement, and manage forest resource assessment systems. The course aims to strengthen technical capacity and support sustainable forest governance and management practices.
