Course Introduction

The Foreign Exchange Trading Controls Audit Training Course provides a comprehensive framework for evaluating the governance, processes, controls, systems, and risk-management practices surrounding foreign exchange trading activities. Foreign exchange operations involve significant transaction volumes, rapid execution, market-price movements, counterparty exposures, settlement risks, and complex technology environments, making effective controls essential for protecting financial institutions and maintaining market integrity.

The course examines the complete foreign exchange trade lifecycle, from market analysis and trade initiation through execution, confirmation, capture, valuation, settlement, reconciliation, accounting, and reporting. Participants will learn how auditors can assess whether FX transactions are executed within approved mandates, accurately recorded, independently confirmed, appropriately settled, properly valued, and supported by reliable documentation and audit evidence.

A major focus is placed on front-office, middle-office, and back-office control structures. Participants will explore segregation of duties, dealing authorities, trader mandates, approved products, counterparty limits, position limits, stop-loss thresholds, transaction approvals, independent price verification, and exception management. The course develops practical approaches for testing whether these controls operate effectively and whether management receives timely information about significant trading exposures.

The programme also addresses foreign exchange market and financial risks, including open currency positions, exchange-rate volatility, counterparty credit risk, settlement risk, liquidity risk, valuation risk, model risk, and market conduct concerns. Participants will learn how to audit spot, forward, swap, option, and other FX transactions while examining pricing sources, valuation methodologies, confirmations, collateral arrangements, hedge relationships, and accounting treatment.

Technology is central to modern FX trading, with electronic trading platforms, algorithmic execution, automated order routing, straight-through processing, market-data feeds, APIs, treasury management systems, and real-time analytics increasingly supporting transactions. The course therefore addresses technology controls, cybersecurity, access rights, automated trading risks, system interfaces, data integrity, algorithm governance, third-party platforms, and operational resilience.

Through practical audit scenarios, transaction testing, data analytics, control assessments, exception investigations, and an integrated FX trading audit case study, participants will develop the ability to identify control weaknesses and assess their potential financial and operational consequences. The programme supports auditors and control professionals in delivering evidence-based recommendations that strengthen FX governance, trading discipline, risk management, and operational resilience.
