Course Introduction

The Foreign Exchange Operations Auditing Training Course provides a practical and comprehensive framework for auditing foreign exchange activities, currency transactions, dealing operations, settlement processes, exchange-rate controls, treasury records, and related financial reporting. It equips auditors and finance professionals with practical techniques for assessing whether FX operations are properly authorized, accurately recorded, independently monitored, and effectively controlled.

The course examines the complete foreign exchange transaction lifecycle, from customer or institutional FX requests and dealing decisions through execution, confirmation, settlement, reconciliation, accounting, and reporting. Participants will learn how to evaluate controls over spot transactions, forward contracts, currency conversions, foreign currency balances, dealer activities, counterparties, settlement instructions, and related cash movements.

A strong emphasis is placed on auditing foreign currency transactions and balances using financial statement assertions such as existence, completeness, accuracy, valuation, classification, rights and obligations, and cut-off. Participants will develop practical procedures for testing exchange rates, transaction amounts, dealer tickets, confirmations, settlement records, bank statements, foreign currency accounts, realized gains and losses, and unrealized foreign exchange movements.

The course also addresses financial and operational risks arising from unauthorized trading, inappropriate exchange rates, dealer override, excessive currency exposures, fictitious transactions, settlement failures, concealed losses, unauthorized counterparties, manipulation of transaction records, and inadequate segregation of duties. Participants will learn how professional skepticism and targeted audit procedures can be used to identify and investigate these risks.

Modern FX operations increasingly depend on treasury management systems, electronic dealing platforms, automated pricing feeds, straight-through processing, algorithmic processes, digital payments, and real-time transaction monitoring. The course therefore incorporates technology-enabled audit techniques, cybersecurity, system access controls, automated controls, interface risks, data integrity, audit trails, and analytics for identifying unusual foreign exchange activity.

Through practical exercises, transaction testing, exchange-rate verification, reconciliations, exposure analysis, data analytics, audit working papers, and realistic case studies, participants will develop the skills needed to conduct effective foreign exchange operations audits. The course emphasizes evidence-based conclusions, financial control improvement, fraud-risk detection, accurate reporting, and stronger treasury and FX governance.
