Course Introduction

The FCDO/DFID Grant Management and Compliance Training Course is a specialized professional development programme designed to equip development practitioners, NGOs, government agencies, consulting firms, and implementing partners with the knowledge and practical skills required to successfully manage grants funded by the UK Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO). The course focuses on strengthening compliance, accountability, transparency, and performance throughout the grant lifecycle while ensuring alignment with FCDO policies, funding requirements, and international development priorities.

As donor accountability requirements continue to evolve, organizations receiving FCDO funding must demonstrate strong financial stewardship, effective risk management, robust safeguarding systems, and measurable development results. This course provides participants with a comprehensive understanding of the regulatory and operational frameworks governing FCDO-funded programmes and the practical tools required to manage grants effectively from inception to closeout.

Participants will explore key areas of FCDO grant management including proposal development, commercial considerations, contract and grant administration, financial compliance, procurement oversight, value for money principles, monitoring and evaluation, reporting requirements, and audit preparedness. The training emphasizes practical approaches to ensuring compliance while maximizing programme impact and organizational effectiveness.

The course also examines the importance of safeguarding, fraud prevention, anti-corruption measures, and ethical programme delivery within FCDO-funded projects. Participants will learn how to establish strong internal controls, manage compliance risks, and create accountability systems that meet donor expectations and international best practices in development programming.

Special attention is given to emerging issues affecting FCDO-funded programmes, including localization, adaptive programming, digital compliance systems, climate and environmental considerations, gender equality and social inclusion, conflict sensitivity, and responsible data management. These topics reflect current priorities within UK development cooperation and international aid effectiveness frameworks.

Upon completion, participants will possess advanced competencies in managing FCDO-funded grants, ensuring donor compliance, strengthening organizational systems, improving programme performance, and delivering sustainable development outcomes that meet the expectations of both donors and beneficiaries.
