Introduction
The transformation of power systems toward smart grids and integrated energy networks is reshaping how energy is generated, transmitted, distributed, and consumed. This training course provides a rigorous foundation for assessing energy technology systems within digitally enabled, interconnected grid environments that support efficiency, reliability, and sustainability objectives.
Participants will explore how smart grids integrate advanced technologies such as automation, digital monitoring, distributed energy resources, and intelligent control systems. The course emphasizes system-level assessment approaches that capture interactions between physical infrastructure, digital platforms, and market mechanisms across integrated networks.
The course introduces analytical tools and methodologies used to evaluate smart grid investments and integrated energy technologies. These include techno-economic analysis, system modeling, performance benchmarking, and cost–benefit assessment techniques tailored to complex, data-rich grid environments.
Special attention is given to interoperability and integration challenges across electricity, transport, heating, and communication networks. Participants will assess how sector coupling, distributed generation, energy storage, and demand-side technologies affect system stability, flexibility, and investment value.
Emerging issues such as artificial intelligence in grid management, cybersecurity, digital twins, advanced metering infrastructure, and climate-resilient smart grids are embedded throughout the course. These topics highlight evolving risks and opportunities shaping future integrated energy networks.
Through applied case studies and practical exercises, participants will develop the capacity to evaluate smart grid and integrated network projects holistically. The course equips professionals to support evidence-based decisions that enhance grid performance, resilience, and long-term system optimization.
