Introduction

The Internet has become a critical global infrastructure, driving economic growth, enabling innovation, and connecting billions of people. However, with its expanding influence, issues of governance, regulation, and policy have become increasingly complex and contested.

This course explores the evolving landscape of global Internet governance, analyzing the political, legal, technical, and economic dynamics that shape policies at national, regional, and international levels. It provides participants with insights into the mechanisms, institutions, and debates surrounding Internet governance.

Participants will learn about the roles of key factors such as governments, private sector players, civil society, and international organizations. Special focus will be placed on the multi-stakeholder governance model, which balances diverse interests and fosters collaboration.

Emerging issues such as cybersecurity, data privacy, cross-border data flows, digital sovereignty, net neutrality, content regulation, and the governance of emerging technologies will be examined in detail. These challenges are shaping the future of digital policies and influencing global power dynamics.

The training also explores the geopolitics of Internet governance, including digital trade, censorship, national security, and competing regulatory frameworks across regions. Participants will assess how governance decisions impact global connectivity, trust, and the digital economy.

By the end of the course, participants will have the knowledge and analytical skills to engage effectively in Internet governance debates, contribute to policy development, and anticipate the emerging challenges shaping the global digital landscape.
