Course Introduction

Emergency livelihood restoration is a critical component of humanitarian recovery efforts, focusing on enabling affected populations to rebuild income sources, restore productive activities, and regain economic stability after shocks such as conflict, disasters, or displacement. This course provides practical tools and strategies for effective livelihood recovery programming.

The program explores how livelihoods are disrupted in emergencies and the short-, medium-, and long-term interventions required to restore economic resilience. Participants will examine different livelihood systems including agriculture, informal trade, wage labor, and microenterprise recovery approaches.

A strong emphasis is placed on rapid livelihood assessment and market analysis to understand community needs, labor market dynamics, and economic opportunities in crisis-affected areas. The course highlights how evidence informs targeted livelihood interventions.

Participants will also learn how to design livelihood support programs such as cash-for-work, skills training, microfinance, and small enterprise development. These interventions are essential for transitioning communities from relief to recovery and resilience.

The course introduces integrated approaches that link livelihood restoration with social protection, food security, and resilience-building frameworks. Participants will understand how multi-sectoral programming strengthens recovery outcomes.

By the end of the course, participants will be able to design and implement effective emergency livelihood restoration strategies that promote self-reliance, economic recovery, and long-term resilience in vulnerable communities.
