Introduction
Economic modeling, simulation, and impact evaluation are essential tools for understanding how policies, programs, and economic shocks affect outcomes across sectors and populations. This course provides participants with a strong applied foundation in economic modeling techniques used to analyze policy effectiveness, forecast impacts, and inform evidence-based decision-making.
The programme bridges economic theory with practical modeling and simulation approaches commonly applied in public policy, development economics, and institutional planning. Participants will learn how economic models translate assumptions, data, and behavioral relationships into quantitative insights that support policy formulation and evaluation.
A core focus of the course is simulation analysis, where participants explore how counterfactual scenarios are constructed to assess “what-if” policy options. These simulations enable policymakers and analysts to anticipate the economic, fiscal, and social impacts of interventions before implementation.
Participants will gain practical exposure to impact evaluation methodologies, including experimental and quasi-experimental designs, integrated with economic models. The course demonstrates how rigorous evaluation strengthens accountability, improves program design, and enhances resource allocation decisions.
The programme also addresses emerging analytical approaches, including computational modeling, machine learning–supported simulations, and the integration of big data into impact evaluation frameworks. These innovations are increasingly shaping how economic evidence is generated and used in complex policy environments.
By the end of the course, participants will possess applied skills to design economic models, run policy simulations, and conduct credible impact evaluations. They will be equipped to support strategic planning, policy reform, and development effectiveness using robust analytical tools.

Duration
