Course Introduction

Earned Schedule and Advanced Schedule Performance Analysis Course provides project professionals with advanced methods for evaluating schedule performance, forecasting completion dates, diagnosing schedule deterioration, and improving the reliability of project time predictions. The course builds on conventional earned value management concepts and introduces earned schedule techniques that overcome important limitations of traditional schedule performance indicators. Participants learn how to connect earned schedule analysis with critical-path analysis, schedule forecasting, project controls, risk management, and recovery planning.

The course establishes the conceptual foundations of earned schedule, including the relationship between planned value, earned value, the time-phased performance measurement baseline, and the point at which earned value intersects with the planned value curve. Participants learn how earned schedule translates performance information from monetary units into time-based indicators that can provide more meaningful insight into schedule status. The course explores earned schedule measures, interpretations, assumptions, limitations, and appropriate applications across different project environments and reporting structures.

A major focus is placed on advanced schedule performance analysis and forecasting. Participants examine indicators such as earned schedule, schedule variance in time, schedule performance measures, estimated time at completion, and forecast error. They learn how to interpret current-period and cumulative performance, analyze trends, distinguish temporary schedule deviations from persistent deterioration, and evaluate whether a reported completion date remains credible. Practical techniques are used to combine earned schedule information with critical-path behavior, float consumption, milestone performance, resource constraints, dependencies, and delivery sequencing.

The course also addresses the importance of integrating earned schedule with broader schedule control practices. Participants learn how to investigate the causes behind schedule performance problems, including productivity losses, late engineering information, procurement delays, resource constraints, technical issues, rework, scope changes, external dependencies, and ineffective decision-making. Advanced analysis techniques are used to identify root causes, assess schedule risk, evaluate recovery options, and determine when schedule compression, resequencing, resource changes, or scope intervention may be appropriate.

Forecasting is examined in depth because the value of schedule performance analysis depends on its ability to support forward-looking decisions. Participants explore methods for forecasting project completion using earned schedule trends, historical performance, remaining work, critical-path analysis, schedule risk, and scenario analysis. The course emphasizes the distinction between mathematically derived forecasts and credible management forecasts, ensuring that schedule predictions are tested against delivery realities rather than accepted solely because a performance formula produces a numerical result.

Modern project environments increasingly rely on integrated digital controls, advanced analytics, and automated performance intelligence. The course therefore examines how schedule data can be combined with project controls platforms, predictive analytics, machine learning, automated schedule quality assessment, and artificial intelligence to strengthen early-warning capabilities and forecast accuracy. Participants consider data quality, schedule integrity, model assumptions, explainability, cybersecurity, and human oversight when using advanced analytics. By the end of the course, participants will be able to apply earned schedule and advanced schedule performance analysis techniques to improve schedule visibility, forecasting confidence, recovery decisions, and overall project delivery performance.
