Course Introduction
Drone technology has revolutionized the collection, processing, and analysis of geospatial information across numerous industries including surveying, engineering, agriculture, environmental management, urban planning, mining, disaster management, and infrastructure development. Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs), commonly known as drones, provide efficient, cost-effective, and highly accurate methods for capturing spatial data at unprecedented levels of detail. This course equips participants with the practical knowledge and technical skills required to plan, execute, and manage drone mapping missions while producing high-quality geospatial products that support decision-making and operational excellence.
The increasing demand for accurate geospatial information has accelerated the adoption of UAV-based mapping technologies worldwide. Traditional surveying and aerial mapping methods often require substantial financial resources, specialized equipment, and extended operational timelines. Drone mapping offers a flexible and scalable alternative that enables rapid data acquisition, frequent monitoring, and detailed spatial analysis. Photogrammetry plays a central role in converting drone imagery into valuable geospatial products such as orthomosaics, digital elevation models, digital surface models, contour maps, point clouds, and three-dimensional models. Participants will gain comprehensive knowledge of photogrammetry principles and practical experience in transforming aerial imagery into actionable geospatial intelligence for diverse applications.
The course emphasizes the complete drone mapping workflow, including mission planning, flight operations, data acquisition, image processing, quality control, data interpretation, and project delivery. Participants will explore various UAV platforms, sensor technologies, flight planning tools, georeferencing techniques, and processing software used in modern mapping operations.
