Course Introduction

The Drone Mapping and Spatial Analysis for Hydrological Assessment Training Course provides participants with the technical expertise to apply Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) and advanced geospatial analytics in hydrological studies. The training explores how drones revolutionize watershed mapping, flood modeling, and environmental monitoring through high-resolution data collection and analysis.

As the impacts of climate change intensify, accurate hydrological assessment has become vital for managing floods, droughts, and water resource planning. Drones, integrated with spatial analytics tools, offer efficient, real-time insights into surface water flow, erosion, sediment transport, and land use changes enabling faster and evidence-based decision-making.

Participants will gain hands-on experience in UAV operations, flight planning, data acquisition, and processing using photogrammetry and LiDAR technologies. The course integrates practical sessions on software such as Pix4D, Agisoft Metashape, ArcGIS, and QGIS for spatial analysis and 3D terrain modeling.

Through practical exercises and case studies, participants will explore real-world hydrological applications such as floodplain mapping, river morphology analysis, catchment delineation, and stormwater management. The course bridges the gap between field-based data collection and digital hydrological modeling for more accurate assessments.

Emerging topics such as AI-based image classification, integration of drone data with hydrological models (SWAT, HEC-RAS, MODFLOW), and cloud-based data processing are covered to align participants with the latest global trends in hydroinformatics and geospatial intelligence.

Ultimately, this course empowers participants to become digital hydrology professionals, capable of leveraging drone mapping and spatial analytics for improved water management, disaster resilience, and environmental sustainability across diverse landscapes.
