Course Introduction
The Disinformation Incident Command for Communication Teams Training Course equips communication professionals with the strategic, operational, and leadership capabilities required to manage disinformation incidents under conditions of uncertainty, speed, and reputational pressure. As false narratives can spread across social platforms, messaging networks, news environments, search systems, and AI-generated channels within minutes, communication teams need disciplined incident command structures that enable rapid assessment, coordinated decisions, and credible public responses.
Disinformation incidents increasingly involve sophisticated combinations of fabricated claims, manipulated media, impersonation, synthetic content, coordinated accounts, misleading narratives, and artificially amplified engagement. The challenge is not simply identifying false information, but determining its potential impact, establishing what can be verified, understanding how the narrative is spreading, identifying affected stakeholders, and deciding when and how an organisation should respond. Effective incident command provides the structure needed to turn fragmented observations into coordinated action.
This course examines practical incident command models for communication teams, integrating intelligence gathering, source verification, narrative analysis, social listening, media monitoring, escalation procedures, decision thresholds, and response coordination. Participants learn how to establish an incident picture, assign responsibilities, maintain reliable information flows, document decisions, and coordinate communication activities across public relations, digital, media, legal, security, technology, executive, and operational teams.
The programme places strong emphasis on evidence quality and disciplined decision-making. Participants learn to distinguish between verified information, credible indications, assumptions, emerging allegations, and unresolved questions while avoiding premature conclusions. They explore how natural language processing, sentiment analysis, network analysis, anomaly detection, AI-assisted monitoring, and automated alerts can support incident assessment while recognising the risks of AI hallucinations, false positives, biased datasets, manipulated signals, and overreliance on automated systems.
The course also addresses the rapidly evolving threat landscape created by generative AI, deepfakes, voice cloning, synthetic personas, automated influence activity, bot amplification, fabricated documents, AI-generated rumours, and agentic systems capable of producing and distributing misleading content at scale. Participants examine how these threats can affect executives, brands, public institutions, campaigns, crises, employees, customers, and communities, and how command teams can prepare for incidents before they escalate.
By the end of the programme, participants will be able to establish and operate a practical disinformation incident command structure, assess information threats rapidly, coordinate cross-functional response teams, develop evidence-based communication strategies, manage stakeholder uncertainty, and conduct structured post-incident reviews. The course enables organisations to move from reactive communication to disciplined incident management, strengthening resilience, decision quality, public trust, and reputational protection in an increasingly contested information environment.
