Introduction

The Disaster Risk Reduction and Climate Resilience Planning Training Course equips participants with the critical knowledge and practical skills to reduce disaster risks, strengthen preparedness, and build climate-resilient communities and institutions. As global climate change intensifies the frequency and severity of natural hazards, the need for strategic, data-driven, and inclusive approaches to resilience planning has never been greater.

This course provides a comprehensive understanding of the disaster risk management (DRM) framework, linking it with climate adaptation and sustainable development goals. It introduces participants to key concepts such as risk assessment, hazard mapping, early warning systems, and disaster recovery planning, integrating scientific knowledge with community-based approaches.

Participants will gain the ability to design and implement resilience strategies that address both natural and human-induced hazards, including floods, droughts, storms, and pandemics. The course explores the interconnections between climate variability, socioeconomic vulnerability, and governance systems that influence risk dynamics.

Through a blend of lectures, case studies, and scenario-based exercises, participants will develop practical skills in policy formulation, contingency planning, and post-disaster recovery coordination. The training emphasizes multi-sectoral collaboration, ensuring participants can engage effectively with governments, NGOs, private sectors, and community stakeholders.

Furthermore, the course incorporates modern tools and technologies for disaster prediction, monitoring, and early warning, including the use of geospatial data, remote sensing, and climate modeling. It also covers climate finance opportunities and adaptive infrastructure design for sustainable resilience building.

By the end of the program, participants will be equipped to lead and coordinate disaster preparedness and resilience initiatives, integrating scientific, policy, and social dimensions to safeguard lives, livelihoods, and ecosystems against future risks.
