Introduction

Natural and human-induced disasters continue to pose significant threats to communities, economies, and infrastructure across the globe. The Disaster Recovery, Humanitarian, and Reconstruction Project Management Course is designed to equip professionals with the technical, managerial, and strategic competencies required to plan, implement, and manage projects in post-disaster, emergency, and recovery contexts.

The course provides a comprehensive framework for understanding the full disaster management cycle, emphasizing recovery, reconstruction, and rehabilitation phases. Participants will explore how to design interventions that not only address immediate humanitarian needs but also build long-term resilience and sustainability in affected areas.

Through a blend of theoretical concepts and practical case studies, the course introduces evidence-based approaches for recovery planning, stakeholder coordination, risk assessment, and resource mobilization. It highlights best practices in humanitarian response, reconstruction project management, and inter-agency collaboration in crisis environments.

Participants will gain the skills to manage complex multi-stakeholder projects, balance short-term relief with long-term recovery goals, and ensure that reconstruction efforts are sustainable, inclusive, and context-sensitive. The course also emphasizes the integration of resilience and adaptation principles into project planning and implementation.

The program further explores innovative tools for post-disaster needs assessment (PDNA), logistics coordination, donor reporting, and performance monitoring in fragile contexts. It includes modules on conflict-sensitive programming, recovery financing, and the role of digital technologies in humanitarian response and reconstruction.

By the end of the course, participants will be equipped to design and lead effective recovery and reconstruction programs that rebuild livelihoods, restore infrastructure, and strengthen communities’ ability to withstand future shocks aligning humanitarian action with sustainable development goals.
