Course Introduction

Social protection programs are essential for safeguarding vulnerable populations during disasters, crises, and economic shocks. This course equips professionals with the knowledge, tools, and strategies to design and implement disaster preparedness plans that ensure continuity of critical social protection services.

Participants will learn to assess risks and vulnerabilities affecting social protection programs, including natural disasters, epidemics, and socio-economic shocks. Emphasis is placed on strategic planning, operational continuity, and targeted interventions to maintain essential services during emergencies.

The course addresses emerging challenges such as climate-related disasters, pandemic responses, and population displacement. Participants explore integrated approaches that combine risk assessment, resource mobilization, and coordination across government, NGOs, and communities.

Practical exercises, case studies, and scenario simulations allow participants to develop actionable preparedness strategies. These hands-on activities help them implement operational continuity plans effectively, reduce service disruption, and protect at-risk populations.

Multi-level coordination is central to the training. Participants learn how to work with social welfare agencies, humanitarian organizations, community leaders, and other stakeholders to ensure timely, coherent, and inclusive response measures in disaster situations.

By the end of the course, participants will have the skills to create robust disaster preparedness frameworks for social protection programs, strengthen institutional resilience, and promote adaptive strategies that protect vulnerable communities while maintaining program effectiveness.
