Introduction

The frequency and impact of disasters both natural and man-made continue to rise. The Disaster and Risk Management Course is designed to equip participants with a comprehensive understanding of the principles, frameworks, and practices necessary to effectively prepare for, respond to, and recover from disasters. The course blends theoretical foundations with practical applications to build resilience in communities, organizations, and systems.

Participants will explore key concepts such as hazard identification, risk assessment, disaster preparedness, mitigation strategies, emergency response coordination, and post-disaster recovery. The course emphasizes a multidisciplinary approach, drawing from environmental science, public policy, humanitarian response, and community development to create a holistic view of disaster risk management.

Through case studies, simulations, and group activities, learners will gain practical experience in scenario planning, crisis communication, stakeholder coordination, and data-driven decision-making. Real-world examples will be used to highlight best practices and lessons learned from disaster events around the globe, enabling participants to contextualize theory in diverse settings.

Whether you are a public official, development practitioner, emergency responder, or NGO worker, this course provides essential skills and insights to enhance your capacity in disaster risk reduction.
