Course Introduction

The Demand Forecasting and Scenario Analytics Training Course provides a practical and advanced framework for predicting future demand, understanding demand drivers, and developing alternative scenarios for planning and decision-making. Participants learn how historical demand patterns, customer behavior, market conditions, pricing, promotions, seasonality, economic indicators, supply constraints, and external events can influence future demand across commercial, operational, public-sector, and service environments.

The course develops a complete demand forecasting workflow covering data preparation, exploratory analysis, demand segmentation, feature engineering, model selection, forecast generation, validation, and communication. Participants learn how to work with historical sales, orders, consumption, utilization, transactions, customer activity, inventory movements, and other demand-related datasets. Particular attention is given to missing observations, intermittent demand, outliers, promotions, stockouts, changing product mixes, new products, and other conditions that can distort historical demand signals.

Participants explore a broad range of statistical and machine learning forecasting methods, including moving averages, exponential smoothing, regression, ARIMA-family models, seasonal models, hierarchical forecasting, tree-based algorithms, ensemble methods, and other predictive approaches. The training emphasizes selecting forecasting techniques according to demand characteristics, data availability, forecast horizon, business requirements, interpretability, and operational constraints rather than applying a single methodology to every demand-planning problem.

Scenario analytics forms a central part of the programme, enabling participants to move beyond a single forecast and examine alternative future conditions. Participants learn how to construct baseline, upside, downside, disruption, growth, and stress scenarios using explicit assumptions about demand drivers. They explore sensitivity analysis, what-if analysis, scenario trees, probabilistic forecasts, simulation, and driver-based modeling to understand how changes in prices, promotions, customer behavior, economic conditions, supply availability, and other variables can influence expected demand.

The programme incorporates emerging developments in demand analytics, including machine learning, automated forecasting, probabilistic demand prediction, causal forecasting, real-time demand sensing, external data integration, artificial intelligence-assisted planning, and automated scenario generation. Participants also examine important limitations and risks such as forecast bias, model drift, data leakage, demand shocks, structural changes, algorithmic overconfidence, poor-quality external data, and inappropriate interpretation of model-generated scenarios.

By the end of the training, participants will be equipped to build and evaluate practical demand forecasting systems and develop scenario-based analytical frameworks that support inventory, procurement, production, staffing, budgeting, capacity, sales, and strategic planning. The course combines quantitative methods with practical interpretation, enabling participants to transform historical and external data into transparent forecasts, alternative scenarios, uncertainty assessments, and decision-ready insights.
