Course Introduction

Designing effective social policies requires more than intuition; it demands rigorous data analysis, evidence-based insights, and the ability to transform complex information into actionable strategies. This course equips participants with cutting-edge tools and approaches to harness data for social policy design and reform.

The program emphasizes the importance of evidence in shaping inclusive, equitable, and impactful policies. Participants will explore methodologies for collecting, analyzing, and interpreting quantitative and qualitative data, with a strong focus on how evidence can address pressing social challenges.

Through a blend of theory and practice, the course introduces advanced data analytics techniques including statistical modeling, predictive analytics, and visualization while contextualizing their application within real-world social policy domains such as poverty reduction, education, healthcare, and social protection.

Special attention is given to the role of big data, open data, and digital technologies in expanding opportunities for evidence-based policymaking. Participants will learn how to integrate emerging technologies and data sources into policy cycles, while critically engaging with ethical and governance challenges.

The course also examines the political and institutional dimensions of evidence use, addressing how policymakers, civil society, and development partners can overcome barriers to ensure evidence translates into meaningful policy change.

By the end, participants will not only be proficient in technical data analysis but will also be skilled in applying evidence to design, implement, and evaluate policies that drive inclusive and sustainable social development outcomes.
