Course Introduction

Critical infrastructure systems including energy, water, transportation, telecommunications, healthcare, and financial services form the backbone of modern society. Disruptions to these systems can have severe economic, social, and national security consequences. As these sectors become increasingly digitized and interconnected, they are also becoming prime targets for cyber attacks by criminals, terrorists, and state-sponsored actors.

The Cyber Security for Critical Infrastructure Protection Course equips participants with advanced knowledge and practical skills to safeguard essential services against evolving cyber threats. The course focuses on risk-based protection strategies tailored to industrial control systems, operational technology environments, and complex interconnected networks that underpin critical operations.

Participants will explore the unique vulnerabilities of critical infrastructure, including legacy systems, real-time operational requirements, and the convergence of IT and OT networks. The training examines how attackers exploit these weaknesses to cause physical disruption, service outages, or safety hazards, emphasizing the need for specialized defensive approaches beyond traditional cybersecurity practices.

Strong governance, coordination, and resilience planning are essential for protecting critical assets. The course highlights the roles of government agencies, private sector operators, regulators, and emergency responders in ensuring continuity of essential services. Participants will learn how to develop policies, standards, and incident response frameworks aligned with national and international guidelines.

Emerging threats such as ransomware targeting utilities, supply chain compromises, insider risks, and attacks on smart infrastructure are examined in depth. The course also addresses the growing importance of cyber-physical security integration, recognizing that cyber incidents can have real-world safety implications for populations and environments.

Through case studies, threat simulations, and strategic planning exercises, participants will gain the capability to design comprehensive protection strategies that enhance resilience and rapid recovery. The course prepares professionals to anticipate future risks, coordinate multi-sector responses, and ensure the reliability of critical infrastructure systems in an increasingly hostile cyber landscape.
