Course Introduction
The Cyber Incident Communication for Communication Teams Training Course equips communication professionals with the knowledge and practical skills required to manage public, stakeholder, employee, customer, media, and partner communication during cyber incidents. The programme focuses on communicating quickly and responsibly when organizations face data breaches, ransomware, system compromise, service disruption, unauthorized access, or other cybersecurity events that can create significant operational and reputational consequences.
Cyber incidents create an unusually demanding communication environment because technical facts may be incomplete while stakeholders expect immediate answers. Participants will learn how communication teams can work effectively with cybersecurity, information technology, legal, risk, compliance, executive leadership, and business continuity teams to establish verified information and communicate it appropriately. The training emphasizes disciplined coordination so that speed does not compromise accuracy, confidentiality, privacy, or organizational credibility.
The course explores the complete communication lifecycle surrounding a cyber incident, from preparedness and early detection through escalation, public notification, media engagement, stakeholder updates, recovery communication, and post-incident learning. Participants will learn how to develop communication protocols, escalation pathways, holding statements, notification templates, FAQs, executive talking points, media responses, employee messages, and stakeholder updates that can be adapted as verified facts evolve.
Participants will examine sensitive communication challenges involving personal data, customer information, operational disruption, regulatory requirements, ransom-related developments, third-party compromise, supply-chain incidents, service outages, and suspected malicious activity. The programme emphasizes communicating what is known, what remains under investigation, what actions are being taken, and what affected stakeholders should do. Participants will also explore how to acknowledge uncertainty without creating unnecessary alarm or making unsupported claims.
The training addresses emerging challenges including ransomware, artificial intelligence-enabled cyber threats, deepfake impersonation, synthetic communications, data extortion, supply-chain attacks, cloud incidents, identity compromise, cyber-enabled fraud, social engineering, and rapidly evolving information risks. Participants will consider how cyber incidents increasingly intersect with reputation, public trust, business continuity, regulatory scrutiny, employee confidence, customer expectations, and media attention. Particular attention is given to misinformation and the risk of false or manipulated information appearing alongside genuine incident updates.
The course concludes with scenario-based exercises that simulate fast-moving cyber incidents and require participants to make communication decisions under pressure. Participants will practise developing initial statements, coordinating internal and external messages, preparing spokespersons, responding to media inquiries, managing stakeholder expectations, correcting misinformation, and communicating recovery milestones. The overall focus is on building communication readiness that protects trust, supports affected audiences, strengthens coordination, and enables organizations to respond credibly throughout the cyber incident lifecycle.
