Course Introduction

The Cross-Cultural and Global Mental Health Training Course equips mental health professionals, social workers, and public health practitioners with the knowledge and skills to deliver culturally competent and globally informed mental health services. Participants explore the influence of culture, context, and global trends on mental health practice and policy.

Participants will gain insights into cultural determinants of mental health, including beliefs, practices, stigma, and social norms. The course emphasizes understanding diverse worldviews to enhance clinical assessment, intervention, and advocacy in culturally varied settings.

The training provides practical approaches for adapting evidence-based interventions to different cultural, linguistic, and socioeconomic contexts. Participants will learn to integrate global mental health frameworks with local practices to improve accessibility, equity, and outcomes.

Through case studies, simulations, and group exercises, participants develop skills in cross-cultural communication, ethical practice, and culturally responsive program design. They will also learn strategies for working in multicultural teams and international mental health collaborations.

Emerging topics such as global mental health policy, migration and refugee mental health, digital interventions across cultures, and culturally adapted psychosocial support are integrated into the curriculum. Ethical considerations and social justice principles guide all training activities.

By the end of the course, participants will be able to design, implement, and evaluate culturally informed mental health programs, advocate for equity and inclusion, and collaborate effectively across global and cross-cultural contexts to promote mental health and wellbeing.
